Fixed denture

restoration without implants

To fix a conventional bridge, the neighboring teeth have to be ground. The new bridge can be anchored or cemented firmly to the posts produced in this way.

This conventional treatment method has advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages

  • It is not necessary to carry out a surgical operation.

Disdvantages

  • The healthy neighboring teeth have to be ground so vital tooth substance is lost forever.
  • Ground teeth can die because of the severe damage.
  • The major stress that has to be borne by the ground neighboring teeth (posts) during chewing can lead to their premature loss.
  • Caries can develop in the ground post teeth that carry the bridge.
  • Bone atrophy can occur because of the lack of stress on the bone between the posts.
